Paris Trip |
|
|
|
One of our main
desires during our time overseas is to visit as many of the surrounding countries as we
can. Our first trip to London (although still in the UK) was a big hit.
For our next adventure, Michele had the wonderful idea of spending Spring Break seeing the
sights of Paris. A few phone calls later and the four of us were booked on a 2 night 3 day
POWER TOUR of The City of Love. Clicking on the images will allow you to see them
in full size. We hope you enjoy... And as always Keep in touch. |

We departed RAF Mildenhall at 0530 and arrived
in Paris at 1430. The tour gave us a few hours to get checked into our hotel, clean up and get
ready to see the sights. As our tour guide said "Paris has 37 important sights and we intend on
having you see them all." Our first stop was the Eiffel Tower." This photo was
taken on Wednesday when we visited the Concorde (Place de la) our tour of the Eiffel Tower was at night.
And yes we went up to the very top...all 300 meters of it (9000 feet) but no we did not climb the
1500 steps, we took the elevator. |

The Eiffel tower at night...I'm sorry but my camera can
not do this wonderful site justice. The Eiffel tower at night with thousands of lights is
a wonderful thing to see. Our visit will always be remembered for one important reason....
IT WAS COLD and WINDY. Did that stop us NO...we went to the top. |

Our trip featured two dinners out on the town. French food mmmm good, but
the real hit this evening was the entertainment. These two performers sang and danced as we had our
dinner and drinks. Did I ever tell you Anthony is a ham...he fit right in and won them over.

Jessica on top of the Eiffel Tower...she has been taking
French in school for two years (getting A's mind you) and looked forward to this trip since coming over
to the UK. But I do not think she liked the 45 knot winds and near freezing temps this night.
She was a real trooper and made the trip to the top... |

Michele's favorite site and one that we plan on visiting again on our next
trip. "The Arc de Triomphe. Standing 50m high and 40m wide, was constructed by
a decree of Napoleon I to the glory of his imperial armies. This site also pays tribute to the
unknown soldiers of war. The body of an unknown soldier was laid to rest here on whose Tomb burns
a flame, which is rekindled each evening. |

Louis XIV moved by seeing his soldiers condemned to beg for food and shelter
decided to build the Hotel des Invalides. Today it's the final gravesite of Napoleon I. And if our
tour guides were correct, that is real gold on the top...all other gold trimmings in Pairs are
fake but this dome in honor of Napoleon I is real gold. |

One of the Modern Icons we just had to visit was the Paris Hard Rock Cafe,
Brian's 21 HRC visited. Although this meal was not on the "Official" tour our bus drivers dropped us
off an easy walking distance from the HRC. Even after saying that we can boast of being lost in one
of the worlds busiest cities. |

The beauty of Notre Dame Cathedral was shocking and yet we never
got closer then a few blocks. Michele and I both have this marked as a must see on our return
trips. Construction begun in 1163 and was completed in 1330. The attention to detail and
turning a building into to a work of art took over 200 years and was well worth it. Much
history and details await us on our next trip. |
